2017 getwinesdirect Heidelberg Pro-Am

Congratulations to the 2017 Get Wines Direct Heidelberg Pro Am winner Simon Hawkes.

The event provided an opportunity for the Club to showcase the excellent presentation of our golf course and raise money for our local charity CAVE. Mother Nature turned on the weather for us and we were lucky enough to witness Simon Hawkes play a faultless round of 8 under 64 to shoot a new course record.

A big thank you to all of the following sponsors:

Get Wines Direct, Johns Lyng Group, Schweppes, Bunnings, Bertocchi, Lion, Gourmet Foods, Metropolitan Foods, Bendigo Bank, North Park Private Hospital, Seacol, Timeless Watches, Local Roads, Concept Logistics, Lecky’s, Collingwood Football Club, Barry Plant, SG Printing, Bowlen, Dunstan & Associates, EA Auctions and Carbonetix.

The day got off to a great start, with a wonderful team of staff and volunteers arriving at the club bright and early to do the finishing touches and welcome the Morning Field.

The 7.30am Shotgun start went off, and the field was off and playing.
Brad Jamieson, Dean Stuart & Brett Williams somehow managed to get the well sought after ‘1st’ tee spot playing with Nick Dasty, however this didn’t prove to be an advantage to their round.

Starting from the 5th Tee, Domingos Mac and his team played well, and we saw some good scores from many of our HGC members.

We had a fundraiser on the 17th hole, where players could pay $10 for their Pro to play their shot – all monies raised going directly to Starlight Foundation.
Kevin O’Hehir, Michael Corcoran and Edmund Bienias got to the 17th and, having seen their Pro Toby Wilcox playing not so great golf, were a little hesitant about him taking their shot, but in the name of a good cause handed over their donation……. then witnessed an incredible Hole In One! The roar from the team and spectators was huge!

The Morning Field came to a close with the field moving well through the course and everyone came into the Eaglemont Room for presentations.

Tony Shaw was, and always is, a great MC, and our GM Lindsay Bell showed his comical side cracking some jokes and getting some laughs.

The results from the Morning Field:

Winning Team:
Burt Ricardo, Adam Brown & Adam Smith. Played with PGA Pro Brendan Smith

Runners Up Team:
Kevin O’Hehir, Michael Corcoran & Edmund Bienias. Played with PGA Pro Toby Wilcox

Individual Winner:
Burt Ricardo

Individual Runners Up:
Adam Smith

The afternoon field were off to a great start with a delicious BBQ lunch and all the players getting in some last minute practice on the range and putting green.

The Shotgun start was sounded and the field was off.
getwinesdirect’s David Stuart was off the 1st tee playing with our own Luke Young & Dan Smith along with Andrew Pitt.

The field was spread with some great PGA Players. Northern Motor Group played with forma US PGA Tour Professional Euan Walters, and the team from Bertocchi played with the Asian Tour winner Terry Pilkadaris.

After match drinks were held in the Members Bar and the traditional ‘Shoot Out’ was on again at 5.30pm with a range of Pro’s and Players. Each player tees off from the Red Tee on the 1st, over to the 4th Hole – It’s a great event for spectators though there were some cringes when Jacinta Cashen’s shot nearly hit one of the brand new Northern Motor Group Holden cars that were on display!

Presentations and Dinner followed in the Eaglemont room, hosted by the great Tony Shaw.
Tony ran the auction to raise funds for the Starlight Foundation with Tickets to the AFL Footy Show, a round of golf at the prestigious Victoria Golf Club, Radio Ads on 3AW, Timeless Watches and a limited edition Gallipoli framed photograph up for grabs.

Tournament History

Home of the getwinesdirect Heidelberg Pro-Am, the Heidelberg Golf Club is proud to be voted the PGA Pro-Am of the Year at the 2012 Victorian Golf Industry Awards in the $20,000 Pro-Am prize purse category. The award confirms the Club’s commitment to excellence in providing a championship golf course, event management and hospitality services of the highest standard for the benefit of our members, corporate partners and competing PGA professionals.

The Heidelberg Pro-Am was formerly known as the Don Walker Purse, played since 1949 in memory of an early Club Professional who was lost in the Second World War. Notable past winners include Ian Stanley, Stewart Ginn and Brett Officer. The Pro-Am is played in March every year and is open to entries from individuals and corporate teams with a Club handicap.

Tony Shaw Corporate Cup

The Tony Shaw Corporate Cup is played for in conjunction with the Pro-Am and awarded to the corporate team with the best nett score in the afternoon field. The Cup is played for in recognition of the former Collingwood premiership captain and Heidelberg member Tony Shaw as being instrumental in the revival of the Don Walker Purse as the Heidelberg Pro-Am since 2011. Shaw was honoured in the same year after being nominated as the Club’s official Ambassador.
